WORKSHOPS

Watercolor/Pastel Pencils

May 22 10am-2pm - In this workshop, 2nd-generation artist Susan Silverman Fink will guide the participants through an artwork using a succession of mediums. All materials included, except a drawing board (at least 16x12”).

Manhattan-born Susan Silverman (Fink) has always been surrounded by art. She has had her work included in an exhibition at the juried Washington Square Art Show in 1972 and the Brooklyn Museum in 1973. A “League Family,” Susan and her parents had all studied at the Art Students League, further solidifying their artistic ties. In addition to the League, Susan studied at the School of Visual Arts. NYC; the Woodstock School of Art, Woodstock, NY; and Barrett House, Poughkeepsie, NY.


Plein-Air Painting

Take your painting to the next stage with an en plein-air (open air) workshop. Students will learn how to capture the moment through the use of light, color, and texture. You will learn how to prep a canvas for outdoor painting, setup your equipment, draw your composition on the canvas with a brush, mix colors on your palette, breaking down your equipment, cleaning your supplies, and so much more! José Rodriguez has won numerous awards for his work. His career has covered many mediums and subjects. His art career has led him to become a Billboard Painter, Mural Artist, Airbrush Artist, Fine Arts Artist and Graphic Design Artist. He has judged many art shows in Central Florida and is the founder of the Ocala Plein Air Painters. Currently he is the Villages High School Graphic Arts Teacher.


RELIEF PRINTMAKING
2-5:30pm, Friday May 24, 2024. Instructor Richard Colvin.

Woodcut, wood engraving, and linoleum block printing are all forms of relief printmaking. In this beginner’s workshop, learn how to design, cut, and print your own relief print using linoleum. All materials provided.

TRY BEFORE YOU BUY

with Claire Simpson. Saturdays, 2:30-4pm – Mixed ages! Have you ever wanted to try a new art material or medium but didn’t have the supplies and didn’t know how to begin? This ongoing series of workshops is a fun place to explore new materials, play with beginner techniques, and help you find your new favorite way to make art.

Claire M. Simpson is a multidisciplinary artist with her BFA from the Rocky Mountain school of Art and Design. With an interest how humans connect to their environment, her work often uses pigments she has foraged from the earth, and is inspired by the interconnectedness of nature.


PAINTING

SPECIAL 4 WEEK TERM

This class features opaque media like acrylic or oil. Learn color, texture, composition, and much more.

Richard Colvin is a painter and printmaker with a long career in museums and art centers. His work is mostly traditional, oil and acrylic.
